Finding hippos out of the water is quite rare, finding them head-to-head with cheetahs is almost unheard of. But this is exactly what happened in the recent Masai Mara in the Olare Reserve.

While hippos may not have the scariest appearance, they are in fact one of the most dangerous animals in the world for humans.

They are easily frightened and extremely aggressive, especially if it has young children nearby or you drift too close to its home.

The giant hippo appears to be struggling to climb the steep riverbank in its intense chase for the fleeing leopard.

The leopard took a second to glance at the approaching hippo before running away. As the hippopotamus builds momentum for its mission, the cheetah family scrambles to get out of the way for the giant.

Just before the aggressive hippo approaches the leopard, in remarkable photos, it uses a burst of energy to make a spectacular escape.
